Frosted Flatwoods Salamander (Ambystoma cingulatum)
The beginnings of a species that's at its end. The Frosted flatwoods salamander (Ambystoma cingulatum) is a species in desperate need of a priority boost in the conservation world. This secretive salamander is known to few outside of a relatively small circle of professional biologists and dedicated enthusiasts. The factors leading to this species' massive decline are nothing short of anthropogenic- habitat loss and ineffective land management strategies. These effects manifest themselves in the form of unsuitable breeding and larval development sites, which are the combined result of the paucity and poor timing of prescribed burns.
