  • Green Tree Anole (<i>Norops biporcatus</i>) Rara Avis, Costa Rica I spotted this anole sleeping on a palm frond the night before. While bird watching just after sunrise the next day, I found myself in the vicinity of the just waking lizard and decided to snap off a few frames. Before starting its day, the lizard, which had just awoken, had darkened it's normally bright green coloration in an attempt to absorb as much warmth as possible.

  • My favorite species of anole, the Pug-nosed Anole (Norops capito), varies from shades of brown and gray to brown and green, to mostly green with brown and gray highlights. They are truly masters of camouflage.
